Interview with Skylights YRA.

Football and music, passions of crowds.
Football and music go hand in hand since it’s very common at stadiums or around them to listen to many famous or fashionable songs whose lyrics were changed  to express the message that fans want to convey to their teams.  Today we’ll have the pleasure of chatting with Turnbull, the rising British band Skylights YRA’s guitarist who is going to tell us about his musical proposal and the influence of football in his life.

UM- Thank you very much Turnbull for your time. First of all tell us about the beginnings of the band, how long have you been playing together, about the members and the musical direction you have adopted.
T- Skylights formed in Acomb in the summer of 2008. Brothers Rob and Jonny had known Turnbull since they were children and Myles used to play in a band with Turnbull when they were 18.
"Jonny had decided to start a band and came to me," says Turnbull. "I'd always played bass in previous bands so decided to try out guitar and Jonny had always played guitar rather than bass, so we swapped roles. We needed a singer, so we asked Rob, who, at the time, was more interested in travelling the country supporting his beloved Leeds United, but we managed to persuade him. To finish the line-up, I asked my old band mate Myles to join the band on the drums.
UM- Are all members Leeds United fans?
How have you been received in other cities where fans are identified with other teams?  Did you go through any unpleasant situations?
T- We all support Leeds and we go and watch York City. We’ve had some banter on Twitter but the majority of people are great, you have to have something a bit wrong with you to get upset about a band supporting a football team.
UM- Have you ever participated in an event organized by Leeds?  How did you feel?
T- Yes we played the 100 year Centenary event at millennium Square. It was a huge honour.
UM- How many albums have you released and what are your future plans regarding releases and tours?
T- No albums as yet, just the one single officially, we have a new song out next month so were looking forward to getting that out.
UM- Despite the global pandemic, taking into account the Leeds's promotion to the Premier League and the continuous rise in the number of the band's followers, Can we say that it is a great year for you?
T- It’s a difficult question to answer, because of the situation were in, it feels a little flat because we haven’t been able to play any gigs. But we really appreciate all the support we have received.
UM- Finally, would you like to say some words to the fans?
T- A massive thank you, no fans no band.
